A letter from my mentor
To Mitsuyo Saito
Mitsuyo Saito is somebody as rare as a Japanese architect with a strong interest in Danish architecture and building culture.
The other way: that Danish architects have been positivly inspired by Japanese design and form, has been well known in Denmark for many years.
In Mitsuyo Saito's case it is also interesting, that is not form and design alone, but especially the content and the human aspect that inspires her.
The wellbeing of the inhabitants is a main goal and that is obtained to a large degree through an engaged dialogue between architect and dwellers/users during the design phase.
I hope that Mitsuyo Saito will have the opportunity in the near future to influence the growing market for especially the elderly also in Japan.
That the final results of her work in Denmark gets a Japanese touch is an extra quality, as well as when you can sense a Danish influence in her present and future buildings Japanese.
